Montana Cancer Screening Program
Central Montana Family Planning is one of thirteen administrative sites for the Montana Cancer Screening Program.
This program provides free and/or low-cost mammograms, Pap smears and clinical breast exams to women. Income and age guidelines apply. Other financial assistance may be available if you do not qualify.
What You Should Know
The Montana Cancer Screening Program (MCSP) is able to cover most services specifically related to breast, cervical, and colorectal health. This program is available to you through special funding from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). You must enroll in the program every year, before you are screened. You will receive annual re-enrollment reminders from our program administrative site. This program serves women ages 30 - 64. Mammograms are covered after the age of 50. Please call 406.535.8811 if you have any questions concerning your coverage.
The Program covers your annual office visit and Pap smear. During this visit you may discuss any health concerns that you have, but if tests not related to the breast and/or cervix are ordered (such as thyroid panels, cholesterol screenings, or other blood tests), you will be responsible for their costs. MCSP will cover mammograms for women over the age of 40.
If your doctor wants to do additional tests such as (but not limited to) a breast ultrasound, breast biopsy, additional mammogram views, repeat Pap tests, or a colposcopy, these tests will be covered by the Program; please contact Sue at 406.535.8811 to ensure coverage, preferably before having these additional tests and/or procedures done.
If you are diagnosed with breast and/or cervical cancer while enrolled in the Program, MCSP provides continued coverage for cancer treatment, as well as patient navagation services.
There are over 20 providers you may see for your doctor visit in Fergus, Judith Basin, Petroleum, and Wheatland counties, and over 900 throughout the state. Make sure you have an authorization from the Program for your appointments and that you take it with you to your appointments. This authorization is proof of your eligibility to the provider.
If you do receive ANY bills, please contact Sue at 406.535.8811 so we can help correct any billing problems, or work out a payment plan using possible fundraising monies.
Please note that if you have had a hysterectomy not due to cervical cancer, only your first Pap smear in the Program will be covered. If you have 3 NORMAL Paps within a 5-year period, the CDC recommends only having a Pap test every 3 years. Liquid-based Paps will be reimbursed at 2-year intervals; however, your office visit will still be covered annually.
Due to eligibility requirements, some people and services are not covered. We have generous donors & have medical funds available to help with the other costs associated with screening and diagnosis. We also have some help with travel costs. Applications are available on site, by calling 406-535-8811 or clicking here.
We provide assistance throughout the appointment making process as well as through a diagnosis of cancer or non-cancer.
